Visual language: Rabobank (1898)

Visual language is particularly relevant to the images on stamps. It must be immediately clear what it represents without extensive explanation (read: text). Visual language plays an important role in the graphic industry, and therefore also in the design of stamps, logos, etc. Recognizability is also important for banks. Think, for example, of the bank card, the app, the bank branch, etc. This time, Rabobank.

Rabobank

Rabobank (trade name of Coöperatieve Rabobank UA) is a Dutch bank, incorporated in Amsterdam, with its head office in Utrecht. Establishment: 1895 first local credit union, 1898 central organizations. Starting from 1895, the bank has existed for 131 years, and calculated from 1898, the bank has existed for 128 years.

In the late nineteenth century, the bank began as a collection of small farmers' loan banks. Rabobank was formed in 1972 from a merger between the Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Bank and the Coöperatieve Centrale Boerenleenbank, both of which had been founded in 1898. They merged to form the Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank BA, trading as Rabobank.

In 2016, the structure of Rabobank changed. The 106 local Rabobanks and Rabobank Nederland merged into a single bank, Coöperatieve Rabobank UA. Since then, it has held a single banking license from De Nederlandsche Bank.

In 2019, the 89 local Rabobanks managed 371 branches. The total workforce of the local banks comprises approximately 24.840 positions. Rabobank serves over 9,5 million customers worldwide, of which nearly 8,8 million are in the Netherlands. 8 million of these are private individuals. 1,9 million (2019) customers are also members of Rabobank. Worldwide, Rabobank and all its subsidiaries have 43.822 employees. Rabobank had the largest market share in the mortgage market in 2004 and 2010, with approximately a quarter of all mortgages in its portfolio.
