Lost place names: Britswerd
Has the name Britswerd (or Britswert) been lost in Friesland or not? It is a village with a core of only three streets: the Kleasterdijk, Buorren, and Terp. And yet, this village acquired a post station in 1941. The post station belonged to the jurisdiction of the Sneek post office.

In addition, a note was added: Closed as of April 1, 1967. This was confirmed in an official announcement from the PTT: Announcements No. 10 of March 9, 1967: Offices. Establishment etc. Effective April 1, 1967, the Britswerd auxiliary post, telegraph, and telephone office is closed. The name Britswerd or Britswert, however, continued to exist.

It is not stated whether postal services were provided in any other way. But the village has been given a different name nonetheless: Wiuwerd, Municipality of Baarderadeel. The yellow sign has been placed in front of the old place name sign, at both entrances to the street named Buorren. Britswert initially belonged to the municipality of Littenseradiel. But wasn't Wiuwerd or Wiuwert a different village? And I don't understand that thing about the different municipal names either. On January 1, 1984, the municipality of Baarderadeel merged with the municipality of Hennaarderadeel and became the municipality of Littenseradeel. Can anyone enlighten me?

I find the lost place names a very interesting section; thanks for that to Cees Janssen.
I make a PDF conversion of every lost place name from the Postzegelsblog website, to have all the lost places together.
I also notice that some images do not end up in the PDF version, namely the images in BMP format; the JPGs do work.
Am I doing something wrong with the PDF conversion? Who can help me?
Dragging the place name signs is a “tradition” in the northern part of Overijssel around New Year’s. Perhaps Friesland is joining in that tradition too?
BMP, TIFF, GIF, and IMG—surely those aren't Adobe-protected formats??
You do have an Adobe license, right??? 🙂
The Wiuwerd sign was placed during the village festival of Wieuwerd and Britswert.

There is a beautiful photo of the church in winter on it.
