Multicolored Beatrix Princess stamp in 1946 after all?

Could there have been talk in 1946 of issuing the Princess stamps in a multicolored version instead of a monochrome one? This question recently arose in my mind prompted by the image of a colorful stamp on the poster 'Buy Princess stamps' in the 64th auction catalogue of Van Sabben Poster Auction on February 1, 2025 (lot 81). Backgrounds After the liberation of the Netherlands, the royal family enjoyed great popularity among the population, partly due to Princesses Beatrix, Irene, and Margriet. In 1943, stamps featuring the entire royal family had even been issued in Curaçao and Suriname. Following this, it was suggested in the press to place the three princesses on the children's stamps. PTT immediately appreciated the initiative and pledged an extra issue. Charity stamps The charity stamps were issued on September 16, 1946, in the collaboration between the Dutch Children's Stamp Committee (NKC) and the Dutch Central Association for the Fight Against Tuberculosis (NCV). The date of issue could not be realized on August 31 (Queen Wilhelmina's birthday) at the express wish of the Queen: “Members of Her House may not be exploited for charitable purposes!” Due to the short preparation time, an extensive advertising campaign in press, radio, and cinema could not be realized for this issue. The NKC-NCV Committee no longer had time to engage an artist. Jacob Jansma, an employee of Senefelder Printing, designed a typographic poster featuring a color-gradient orange beam of light in the background. The postal service contributed to the advertising campaign with a letterbox poster featuring a colored preliminary design of the Beatrix stamp. Unknown poster particularly beloved Only 79 years after its issuance did the above PTT poster resurface from oblivion through an image in the 64th Van Sabben auction catalogue. A poster featuring an image of one of the three monochrome stamps would not stand out at all. That is why graphic designer Samuel Hartz (1912 – 1995) provided a preliminary design with eye-catching colors (the designer's name is just barely visible in the bottom right). Thanks to the cheerful colors, the radiance of the 8-year-old Beatrix is ​​significantly enhanced. Full of confidence, she looks forward to the people, the world, and the future with a sparkle. Graphic designer Hartz has strikingly captured the lively childlike appearance in the engraving / stamps in a sketchy, sensitive, and spirited manner. The names of the little princesses, written in elegant letters, complement this perfectly. The Princess Stamp Committee (NKC-NCV Committee) managed to sell 100.000 blank postcards (at 3 cents each) affixed with a 4 or 5 cent Princess stamp during the relatively short preparation time. The 4 cent postcard was for local mail, and the 5 cent postcard for national/interlocal mail.
