The first stamp booklet of the Faroe Islands

Few stamp collectors are aware of the existence of the first stamp booklet issued by the postal administration of the Faroe Islands. This is not surprising, as it was a very simple booklet indeed. Many collectors of Scandinavian stamps, of course, are familiar with this booklet. The handmade booklet contained two stamps issued on January 30, 1975. These two stamps were part of the series of 14 permanent stamps. This booklet is listed in the Facit Speciaal Catalogue, with a print run of 253.750 copies. In the booklet, the stamps, taken from sheets, are glued down along the sheet margins. It consists of three strips with pairs of 10 oyru and one strip with a pair of 70 oyru. Total for a face value of 2 krónur. This total value is stated on the simple envelope, accompanied by the text: Postage stamps of the Faroe Islands. On the back of the booklet it states: Remember the postcode, decorated with a postal bee. It would take more than eight years before the Faroe Islands postal service would issue a new stamp booklet. This second booklet was issued on May 2, 1983, containing two stamps depicting old chess pieces. These stamps were not available as sheet stamps and are unperforated at the top and bottom. Why is the first stamp booklet so unknown? Probably because this booklet is not included in most pre-printed albums and because the stamps in the booklet do not differ from the stamps in sheets. And yet, the Faroe Islands collection is not 'complete' without this booklet.
