Send a Christmas card to an elderly person

As many as 1,8 million elderly people in the Netherlands feel lonely. The time around Christmas is an especially difficult period for many of the elderly. That is why the National Foundation for the Elderly is organizing The Great Christmas Card Campaign for the tenth time together with partners PostNL Bijzondere Momenten Fonds and Kidsweek. With this anniversary edition, they aim to deliver a warm message to more than a quarter of a million elderly people around Christmas. Will you participate?

Send a Christmas card to an elderly person

Christmas cards are still highly appreciated by seniors: over 60% reflect (more) on the fact that someone is thinking of them when they receive a Christmas card. This is evident from a survey among the Elderly Panel of the Ouderenfonds (Nov 2024). It is striking that appreciation increases significantly with age. For those over 85, this applies to no less than 80%! Furthermore, the panel also shows that older people find a handwritten card particularly valuable (68,2% (completely) agree).

Fortunately, people are already writing in full swing again at home, among colleagues, and by thousands of students. Together with Kidsweek, PostNL has already delivered 150.000 Christmas cards to primary schools throughout the Netherlands, so that children can write a warm Christmas greeting. Until December 15th, everyone could also write a Christmas card at Intratuin for the Great Christmas Card Campaign. Writing tables featuring Christmas cards by illustrator Miriam Bos are available in all Intratuin stores. No stamp or address is required: the cards can be left in the designated box. And for those still looking for a gift: for one week, the retail chain is donating one euro from every orchid sold to the National Foundation for the Elderly. Together, we make a difference.
