Stamp sheet with silver – Miffy and Nina on vacation

On August 12, 2026, PostNL issued the Miffy and Nina on Vacation stamp sheet, featuring two different silver stamps in luxury packaging with a certificate of authenticity. This is the first time PostNL has produced a stamp sheet with two silver stamps. The print run is limited to keep this release exclusive. Until now, PostNL has only issued single silver stamps.

Miffy is a cartoon white rabbit who plays the main role in a series of books by Dick Bruna. The books are designed for toddlers and preschoolers. Miffy the Rabbit, as the rabbit is called in full, has a father and mother, a grandpa and grandma, and friends like Betty Pig and Boris Bear in the books. The stories usually revolve around small adventures in and around the house. The rabbit, the other characters, and all objects are drawn only in their essence using clear lines, making them almost like pictograms. The black outlines of figures and objects, drawn with a brush, are filled in with a limited number of bright colors. Miffy always looks directly at the reader, and emotions are depicted with small adjustments to the eyes and mouth.
Mercis bv possesses a database containing over 4.000 illustrations by Dick Bruna. At Mercis bv, Mariëlla Ostendorf, Manager of Special Projects, oversaw the creation of the new stamps. In view of the release date at the beginning of summer, she settled on the theme of 'holiday'. Ostendorf: 'For the pre-selection I sent to the designer, I looked for summery drawings with a cheerful feel. The drawing of Miffy with the shovel and bucket on the stamps comes from the book Miffy at the Seaside, just like the shells and kites on the stamp sheet and the packaging. The drawing of Nina, the brown rabbit, comes from the book Miffy and Nina.'

Previous Miffy and Nina stamp sheet in 2015
Nina is Miffy's dark-skinned friend from the children's book series of the same name by Dick Bruna. She was introduced in 1999 in the picture book of the same name, 'Miffy and Nina', in which Nina comes over from a faraway land to stay with Miffy. Nina lives far away, and the two bunnies first write letters to each other. When Nina comes to visit to stay, they are very happy and play and do crafts together a lot. Nina is also popularly referred to as 'the brown Miffy' and is a constant friend in later animated series.

Please note: The stamps shown in this article are 'frame stamps' or 'personal stamps'. These stamps are valid for postage but are not included in a catalogue or album.
