The Red Devils
The Belgian men's national football team is the national team that has represented Belgium in international football matches since 1904. Their nickname is the Red Devils. But where does the name The Red Devils come from? Stefan Van Loock, spokesperson for the football association, has the answer. The name comes from a report of a match against the Netherlands in 1906. The Belgians played so aggressively and well that they beat the superior Netherlands 5–0. The journalist said that they played like clay Red Devils.
“Where’s the party? Here’s the party!”, the anthem that sets football stadiums ablaze during the Red Devils’ matches, will from now on also resonate in letterboxes. To mark Euro 2020, bpost is releasing special stamps to show support for the Red Devils. The sheet, which contains two different stamps, features a “lenticular” effect. When held at an angle, movement is simulated. The sheet depicts the stadium in the Belgian colours. On one of the two stamps, a footballer scores a goal. The other shows a supporter in a jersey with the slogan: 'Where’s the party? Here’s the party!' It is the first time this technology has been used on Belgian stamps. The two-stamp sheet, featuring stamps for international mail, is available for purchase in our eShop and at major post offices and postal points from June 14, 2021, for a price of €11,10. Tintin, hero of the Red Devils
The new Red Devils away shirt is based on the Tintin kit. This shirt is more than just a piece of clothing – it is a tribute to one of the most famous Belgian comic book characters: Tintin!
