Press Release Monthly Philately / NVPH
We have just received a press release issued by the monthly magazine Philately and the NVPH:
Collaboration between Maandblad Filatelie and NVPH? At the initiative of Maandblad Filatelie, a collaboration has been established with the aim of making the NVPH Special Catalogue even more complete and better than it already is. Starting with the July/August issue of Maandblad Filatelie, the column 'Catalogus Kraamkamer' (Catalog Nursery) will appear monthly. This column, curated by Rein Bakhuizen van den Brink, will list new stamp variants to be included (generally A-numbers) that will be incorporated into the NVPH Special Catalogue. These will be variants of both modern and classic stamps. This will involve important variants, clearly described and accompanied by images, that can be recognized by any collector without special aids. The unique aspect of this collaboration is that all described variants will immediately be assigned an NVPH catalogue number. Subsequently, these variants will be included in the upcoming edition of the NVPH Special Catalogue with a price listed under the assigned NVPH number. The first new entries will already be included in the 2015 edition of the NVPH Special Catalogue, which will be published in September. It's about time. For a number of modern variants, I've just made up a catalog number myself over the past few years!
Ah, this is perhaps the best philatelic news I have heard this century. I am very much looking forward to this.
I do wonder a bit what 'without special aids' exactly means. If that includes, for example, a UV lamp, then certain variants remain... well... underexposed.
For pricing, that is sensible.
You can expect a new discussion; after all, it is never good enough: too high, profiteers; too low, certainly no stock, etc., etc. But all of this is worth congratulating; years and years have passed, while mentions were made monthly in the magazine. I am curious how the collaboration with De Vos et al. will work out. Now
If we still seek collaboration with personal stamp experts, philately can expect a boost !!!!!

For some collectors in the Netherlands, this will be quite interesting, but the catalogue will become an almost unmanageable volume.
Isn't it about time to separate the Netherlands from the Overseas Territories?
It will turn into two books, but probably easier to handle.

Separating the Overseas section would be a bad idea; after all, trade in these areas is already very low and would certainly decrease even further if separated. Sales of the overseas section would be low and would not be profitable. A practical example is Belgium, where the colonies have been separated yet are included in the whole. In my opinion, that would be the only option. Why would you separate the overseas section and add another part? You could also separate all varieties and put them in one book; I think you would then have the certainty that no single part would be profitable.
Yay, The Cat. is getting even more specialized. This calls for a supermarket commercial logo like 'NOW EVEN BETTER'.
I am already dreaming of Yellow gum-White gum (A,B1,B2,…D2b), Dull paper-White paper (e.g. with Juliana Profil, Van Krimpen, Juliana Regina), Y-comb vs G-comb, Toothed cuticle-non-toothed.

This dream is really going too far, you know; it won't come to that. 'Now even better' has applied to the NVPH catalog for years; just put a 2014 edition next to an edition from ten years ago. Quite a lot has changed!
I know, Rob, I’ve been sitting in the Pentecost sun for a long time, and sometimes a mirage appears. And let’s be honest, the target group of gum difference collectors is veeeery small.
As a logo, perhaps it could be: “Even now further improved”.
I did, however, have the Michel Deutschland-Spezial in mind as a possible starting point. It certainly contains differences in gumming (waagerechte vs senkrechte Gummiriffelung), perforated sheet margins (dgz vs ndgz, e.g. in Infla 1923 and Bizone 1945-1948), and occasionally a section on weißes or graustiches Papier as a text paragraph.
In any case, I look forward to the changes in the NVPH-Cat with pleasure.
