Partner cities in Estonia

In 1941, Estonia was occupied by German troops. Virtually all countries that faced war as occupied territories also faced postal problems. In many cases, the occupier withdrew the stamps in use to overprint them with text and sometimes different values. However, entirely new issues were also produced under the supervision of the occupier. In Estonia, too, the postal authorities were compelled by both Russia and Germany to issue stamps that fit the occupier's strategy. Thus, an issue was created that saw the light of day in 1941 at the behest of the German occupier. Dorpat Dorpat is the German name for Tartu, the capital of the province of Tartumaa. Since 1632, the city has had a university, donated by Gustav II of Sweden. The series of stamps that was issued was named after Dorpat. One of those stamps depicts the university, which still exists. Deventer en Zutphen have been partner cities of Tartu, as the city is now called, since 1990.   The 20 kopeck stamp depicts the Stone Bridge, which was completely destroyed during the war. Narva Narva is the third largest city in Estonia. There is a lot of industry here and the language is predominantly Russian. The river forms the border with Russia. Two stamps featuring views of Narva were also issued in the series, one of which with the Hermansburcht (Hermanni Linnus) in the foreground and one with the same castle with the river in the foreground. The castle was built by the Swedes. On the other side of the river lies another castle on which the Russian flag is flying. Does Narva have a sister city in the Netherlands?       Rev Reval is the German name for Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The old city center is surrounded by a city wall that still largely exists.   The city wall with its typical towers and gates is clearly visible on the 50 + 50 stamps. With names like 'Kijk in de keuken', Lange Herman, and the gate Dikke Margareta, they have been given wonderful nicknames. Lange Herman is depicted on the 15 kopeck stamp.   Tallinn also has a sister city in the Netherlands: GroningenRegarding the stamp series itself: the series, designed by H.
