On traXS in Utrecht
Small meets big. For three days, Europe's best model railway builders will exhibit their latest model railway layouts during On traXS. Be amazed by the most beautiful model railway layouts, right amidst the life-size trains of the Railway Museum from March 14 to 16, 2025. For your visit to On traXS, you need a valid admission ticket and a reservation for the Railway Museum, even if you are visiting the museum with a Vriendenloterij VIP card or a Museumkaart.

At On traXS, we work closely with Team Mitropa. They are excellent model builders themselves and scout the finest model layouts in Europe for the Railway Museum. For the principles of On traXS have remained the same for 15 years: only the most excellent builders receive an invitation, the layouts are of the highest quality, and have never been seen in the Netherlands before.
The public votes annually for the most beautiful model railway of On traXS. The coveted On traXS Award 2024 went to Rijk van Nijmegen by Loek Bronkhorst. The surroundings of Nijmegen take center stage in this model railway, and the Maas en Waal Steam Tram in particular. The tram appears on the layout in no fewer than three different scales: H0, N, and Z scale, to create a sense of depth. And this was a huge hit: visitors sometimes stood in thick rows marveling at the layout! As the winner of the On traXS Award, Rijk van Nijmegen will be on display once again at the Maliebaan Station this year.
At On traXS, it's not just train enthusiasts who can indulge their passion; there is also a huge amount to do for children. For instance, the miniature trains themselves are magical to behold, and thanks to a step, even the smallest children can join in the fun. On some layouts, they are even allowed to operate the controls and drive the trains, such as on the C-track layout of Railclub Utrecht.

For true enthusiasts, there are various interactive demonstrations and workshops where you learn the tricks of the trade and the latest techniques to make your own layout even more beautiful. In addition, suppliers and manufacturers present the latest products in the field of model building. So you won't have to go home empty-handed.
