Another Eiffel Tower!
During my little search for stamps featuring an image of the Eiffel Tower, I came across a beautiful example. On November 26, 1973—the stamps had previously been issued (individually and in a different color) on August 9 and 10, 1973—a block of three stamps was issued by the CCCP, the Union of Soviet Socialists, in connection with the state visits of Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev to Bonn, Washington, and Paris.
Breznjev was Secretary General of the Central Committee of the USSR, as the Union was also called. He was the successor of Nikita Khrushchev when he was deposed in 1964 and after the so-called triumvirate was dissolved in 1966. He himself became best known for the invasion by the troops of the Warsaw Pact (the Prague Spring) in Czechoslovakia in 1968. Richard Nixon In 1972, he became the first American president to visit the Soviet Union. Among other things, he discussed the reduction of strategic weapons with Leonid Brezhnev. In 1973, he paid a return visit to the United States, and in that year he also visited France. From 1974 onwards, he became increasingly ill and suffered from heart problems. Brezhnev died on November 10, 1982.
The block of three 4-kopek stamps was issued under the title: The Peace Programme in Motion. The three stamps in the block show the Kremlin see with the square Troitskaya Tower, 80 meters high, and the red star on the spire.
The top stamp is dedicated to the visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, the then capital Bonn. A fragment from Brezhnev's speech is included on a tab in both Russian and German. The second stamp relates to the visit to Washington, and the White House is depicted here. On the tab, again, a fragment from his speech, this time in Russian and English.

The final stamp is his visit to Paris, featuring an image of the Eiffel Tower. On the tab, in Russian and French, is a fragment of his speech once again. Another Eiffel Tower added to the collection! And another piece of history retrieved. That makes stamp collecting a wonderful hobby. And now I am looking for stamps with an image of the Eiffel Tower. That way, it is possible to build a new thematic collection. Any ideas?
