New release: Love for landscape

PostNL will issue the framed stamp sheet 'Love for Landscape' on May 8, 2026. The stamp sheet features 10 photographs by Saskia Boelsums depicting Dutch landscapes. Boelsums: 'In my pre-selection, I opted for clear images, given the small size of the stamps.' Beautiful stamps in a sheet of 10. Love for landscape

Saskia Boelsums trained as a visual artist and dedicated herself to landscape photography about ten years ago. 'I don't call myself a photographer, but a visual artist with a camera. Sometimes I spend months editing my photos. I really do that at the pixel level. I certainly record what I saw, but above all, I want to convey the feeling I had at the moment I took the photo. For example, how beautiful the summer evening was, how cold it was, or how the strong wind felt. If the brilliant sunlight I saw isn't clear enough in the photo, I make the blades of grass on the right side slightly lighter, blade by blade, for instance. And if that doesn't work well, I make the blades of grass on the other side slightly darker instead, continuing until it is exactly as I experienced it. My background in painting comes in very handy with that.'

The stamp sheet was designed by Sandra Smulders, who normally likes to add extra elements to her designs, but consciously chose not to do so here. She views a stamp as a kind of security with a layered design, but this time she chose to let Saskia Boelsums' photos speak entirely for themselves, without additions. The square shape of the photos has been retained, which, according to her, adds something extra to the sheet, each bearing the title *Liefde voor landschap* (Love for Landscape). From the submitted photos, Smulders carefully selected ten images that form a cohesive whole but also differ sufficiently from one another, both horizontally and vertically. This was a precise process. She deliberately chose lighter photos to prevent the sheet from becoming somber, as much of Boelsums' work is dark and atmospheric. For the borders, she used enlarged sections of the stamp photos themselves, so that the overall image consists entirely of the photographer's work. Furthermore, the composition is tailored to a logical landscape: ducks fly through the sky in the upper right and reeds sway in the lower left. The colors blend into one another from left to right. The artist's name is placed below the image, clearly legible but kept simple, with the first name subtly flowing off the stamp sheet.
