Hospital appointments cancelled. Is it winter or is it spring? In short, the latest winter woes with low wind chill temperatures. Do you know the Anton Pieck feeling? The 'Anton Pieck feeling' represents a nostalgic, fairytale-like, and idyllic atmosphere, inspired by the detailed drawing style of Anton Pieck. It is characterized by cozy, romantic scenes from an imagined past, often with a touch of humor, subtle quaintness, and a typical nostalgic appeal, strongly connected to the fairytale atmosphere of the Efteling.

Characteristics of this feeling are:

• Detailed atmosphere: Small streets, old crafts, and quaint details, known from his illustrations and the Efteling designs.

From an early age, the depiction of man in his work had comic, grotesque, or bizarre traits. Pieck saw a contradiction between, on the one hand, the pomposity and hurried bustle of man, and on the other, his temporary presence and eventual disappearance. For this reason, old houses held an attraction for him, due to the vanished yet still suggested life from the past. This orientation soon lent his work a distinct atmosphere.

In interviews, Pieck regularly stated that he felt little affinity with twentieth-century phenomena such as apartment buildings, factories, asphalt, or cars. His work has a style entirely of its own, often fairytale-like and nostalgic in character, and demonstrates great imagination and an eye for detail. His illustrations became extraordinarily popular. The atmospheric drawings can still regularly be seen on birth announcements, bookplates, and calendars. As a bookbinding designer, he provided bindings for countless books. Pieck also did a great deal of etching.

Temporary exhibition: The Calendar Plates of Anton Pieck, through January 3, 2027. When you think of Anton Pieck, you think of his beautiful, famous calendar plates. If you are a lover of nostalgia, craftsmanship, and imagination, then you can indulge yourself here: The Anton Pieck Museum in Hattem presents a special exhibition featuring the most beautiful calendar plates by Anton Pieck. A unique selection shows why Pieck remains one of the most beloved Dutch illustrators to this day. In the exhibition, you not only see the artistic richness of Pieck's work, but also discover the craftsmanship and the stories behind the illustrations. Original sketches and drawings, rarely shown examples, and all kinds of background information make it clear how Anton Pieck managed to touch generations with his warm, nostalgic visual language.   In addition, there are two temporary exhibitions on display. Timeless fairy tale prints by The Tjong-Khing, through March 29, 2026. Longneck, a fairytale to look forward to!, through March 29, 2026.
