In brief…(309 Germany puts an end to Lighthouse series after twenty years

Everything comes to an end. The same goes for series. On July 4, Germany drew a line under the popular Lighthouse series. What makes it special is that the series begins and ends with a lighthouse at the mouth of the Weser. The series ran for twenty years. In 2004, the first two lighthouses appeared on stamps, including the Roter Sand. This was replaced by the Alte Weser in 1964. This lighthouse now appears on the Lighthouse stamp (value 70 cents). The intention is to replace the Lighthouse series in 2025 with stamps featuring motifs also related to shipping. Germany is therefore losing one series now, but there are still plenty left, namely thirteen. Including the last lighthouse stamp of July 4, that makes the thirteen.
