European Parliament election for Belgium on 9 June 2024: vote three times
In Belgium, votes will be cast three times for the European Parliament election, for the Chamber of Representatives (Federal = for the whole of Belgium), for the Flemish Parliament, or Walloon Parliament, or Brussels Parliament, or Parliament of the German-speaking Community on June 9, 2024. Unlike the Dutch postal service, the Belgian post has issued many stamps with the theme 'European Elections'.

In Belgium, the European elections take place on 9 June 2024. Voting is compulsory for Belgian citizens aged 16 and over. It is also possible to vote by proxy or abroad if certain conditions are met. 22 Belgian Members of Parliament are elected.
According to European law, all countries must have an electoral system that guarantees proportional representation. This means that the number of elected members for each party depends on the number of votes that party receives. In Belgium, you can only vote for one party in each election. You can tick the box at the top of the list (list vote, which means you accept the order of the candidates), or you can tick the box of one or more candidates on that list (which means you want to change the order). List votes go to the first candidate on the list (then to the second, as soon as the first has reached their quota, etc.). The total number of votes for each party is the number on which the seat allocation is calculated. Once the seats have been allocated to each party, the number of preference votes (including redistributed list votes) indicates which individual candidates on the list have been elected.
(2024 is an election year, and that means a new election stamp. This stamp can only be used by political parties and politicians in the 40 days before the elections. André Buzin chose the rare hen harrier, rarely seen in Belgium.) Besides the European elections, there are two other elections, namely Federal (for the whole of Belgium) and Regional (Flemish or Walloon, or Brussels or German-speaking).
