Crown Row Varies (31)

We are all in a partial lockdown during the second wave since October 2020. I will easily reach the 50th edition of the corona blog, given the diverse angles of COVID-19 and the tsunami of COVID-19 issues worldwide. The experiences of the first wave indicate that philately is showing an upward trend again. Stamp collecting is not hip, but collectors who are dusting off old stockbooks want to fill their gaps. Nevertheless, these philatelists miss the international stamp fairs. In this 31st blog, the most important fairs and their issues are listed that NOT ALLOWED continued in 2020.

Stamp collecting is totally hip again

Everything comes back into fashion eventually. Apparently, that applies to our hobby as well: stamp collecting. It might seem old-fashioned, but nothing could be further from the truth. Stamp collecting is hip again. Oddly enough, collecting the stamps appeals particularly to the younger generations. This has to do with nostalgia, but certainly also with the COVID-19 era. The proof that stamp collecting is back in style has been provided. The hashtag #stamps was recently trending on Instagram and TikTok. The hashtag #philately, which also means collecting stamps, was used frequently.

Many dealers and auctions are once again selling many stamps and cancellations of both classic and thematic material. Is that also your experience in your stamp society? Unfortunately, almost no international stamp fairs are being organized this year. As a result, you are missing the postal administrations and dealers at these fairs and exhibitions.

In October 2003, TPG Post issued a 39-cent stamp with the theme 'stamp collecting'. This stamp was created at the request of and in collaboration with leading organizations in the field of stamp collecting. In 2003, the NVPH celebrated its 75th anniversary. At the request of the NBFV, this stamp was also issued in honor of Stamp Day. Various items related to stamp collecting are depicted on the sheet margin: a magnifying glass and tweezers. The logos of 'NVPH' and 'NBFV' are also included on the sheet margin.

Philatelia Munich 2020

Philatelia Munich was held from March 6 to 8, 2020. Health authorities prohibited the fair from opening on March 7 and 8, 2020. Consequently, the fair was held for only one day. See the images below of special issues and stamps that were used for only one day.

Duke Mail 2020

Initially, Hertogpost (at the Brabanthallen) was scheduled for the period March 19 to 21, 2020. That did not go ahead. A second date from May 28 to 30, 2020, was also not feasible. We were still in the intelligent lockdown. Now scheduled for March 18 to 20, 2021. See https://hertogpost-event.nl/  Information about the two sheets below can be found at: https://hertogpost-event.nl/danny-spungen/postzegels

MILANOFIL 2020

The major stamp exhibition MILANOFIL is organized annually in Milan. For 2020, the dates of March 27 and 28 had already been reserved by many postal administrations and dealers. Unfortunately, the organizers had to cancel MILANOFIL2020. The next edition will be held in 2021. [/ One_half] [one_half_last]           [/ One_half_last]

Postex 2020

Postex was scheduled to be held in Apeldoorn on October 16 and 17, 2020. That was not feasible. Normally, the 2020 Day of the Stamp issue would be for sale at this fair. This is still possible at the CollectClub and PostNL.

Aerophilately Day 2020

The celebration of Aerophilately Day 2020 was supposed to take place during Postex on October 17, 2020. Unfortunately, this day was also cancelled. However, the association has designed a modified COVID-19 cover and a special stamp. Kudos to the designer's creativity. Take a close look at the stamp with the coronavirus logo '19'.

Indonesia 2020

Indonesia 2020 was originally scheduled from August 6 to 11, 2020. These dates have been changed to: November 5 to 10, 2020. 74th Autumn Philatelic Exhibition 2020

The organizers of this annual Salon (held in Paris for the 73rd time) had to decide to cancel the fair from November 4 to 8, 2020, due to the uncertain coronavirus situation. The two CNEP blocks are for sale from dealers: the Year of de Gaulle and the 150th Anniversary of the Siege of Paris.

  1. The Salon Philatélique d'Automne in Paris (November 4-8) has also been cancelled. However, the French Post Office is issuing all stamps (including the vending machine stamps) that were scheduled to appear during this period, along with the corresponding first-day cancellations.

The Philatelia in Munich (March 6-8) deserves special mention, as it was open for one day. The German stamp was only available from this first day. The Czech Post issued a postcard.

A nice collecting area is other events that were cancelled but for which stamps were issued: tennis in Monaco, ice hockey and cycling in Switzerland, the Olympic Games (including Cyprus and Liechtenstein), and the Paralympic Games (stamp from Slovakia).

  2. Slovakia has issued not only a stamp but also a FDC seal on August 24, 2020, of archer Veronica Vadovicova with 3 gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the Paralympic Games to date.
The print run is 480,000 stamps.

  3. @ Maxim: Thanks for the addition. The items from Philatelia Munich and Salon Philatélique d'Automne have been added to the blog.

The sports events and other events that are not being held in 2020 will be covered in follow-up blogs. I have 19 more to go.
