Famous pilots

The Faroe Islands are issuing stamps featuring famous pilots this year. Who are the pilots and why are they famous? Antonio Locatelli, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and Charles Lindbergh were three influential figures in aviation history, each with their own unique contributions. Faroër is issuing two stamps in honor of these famous pilots. The designs were created by Janus Dam Guttesen. Antonio Locatelli was an Italian pilot and war hero. He served during the First World War and became known for his courageous missions. Later, he became a fervent supporter of Italian aviation and played a role in the exploration of new aviation routes. In 1924, he attempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean and was the first to perform a recorded landing on the Faroe Islands. He did this with his seaplane in Tórshavn Bay. This was the first recorded landing on the islands by a pilot. On his subsequent flight, he was forced to make an emergency landing at sea near Greenland, where he was rescued. Anne Morrow Lindbergh was an American writer and aviation pioneer. She was the wife of Charles Lindbergh and flew with him on various reconnaissance missions. She became the first American woman to hold a glider pilot's license and wrote influential books about her experiences, including 'Listen! The Wind'. Charles Lindbergh was one of the most famous pilots in history. He became world-famous for his solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. In addition to his achievements in aviation, he was also involved in technological innovations and environmental protection. Lindbergh landed with his wife in 1933 at Trongisvágsfjørður on the island of Suduroy in the Faroe Islands. The stamps were issued gummed. But also self-adhesive die-cut (3 sets in a stamp booklet).
