Out and about on June 21 and 22, 2025
On June 21st, the week with many road closures due to the NATO summit, national events are still being organized. Composer's Day (June 20 and 21)
The fourth edition of the Day of the Composer will take place on and around Saturday, June 21, 2025. The Day of the Composer turns the Netherlands into one large music station. During the national festival, more than twenty participating cities put their composers in the spotlight with all kinds of activities, such as concerts, workshops, and lectures. City composers are composing a new City Song for the festival. The public can travel along from station to station with the New Music NOW Express (with old railway rolling stock)Live performances take place in the three train compartments and at the stations. Radio station NPO Klassiek and online music platform newmusicnow.nl pay ample attention to Dutch new musical art. The Day of the Composer is an initiative of New Music NOW and is unique in Europe.
With Composer's Day, the Netherlands celebrates the importance, value, and joy of new music. Composers active in our country right now deserve to be heard much more often. That is why they are fully in the spotlight at the festival, in all their versatility. They are visibly present and approachable to the public, give workshops and lectures, curate programs, and offer a 'glimpse into their world.' And, of course, their music is heard. Not only in concert halls, but also on the street, at radio and train stations, and on the train. With Composer's Day, initiator New Music NOW aims to set a movement in motion, because creation and curiosity belong at the heart of musical life.

Construction Day (June 21)
The Day of Construction takes place on Saturday, June 21, 2025. On this day, construction and infrastructure companies throughout the Netherlands open their construction sites to the public, so that everyone can take a look behind the construction fences. Most important points- Goal: To open construction sites to the public to show how construction projects come to fruition
- Organization: Bouwend Nederland
- Activities: Sightseeing, guided tours, interactive presentations, and sometimes activities for children
- Homes (new construction and renovation)
- Infrastructure (roads, dikes, locks, etc.)
- Stations and other public buildings
- And much more!
You can ask questions to construction professionals and learn more about the various aspects of a construction project. Open Gardens Weekend (June 21, 22, 28, 29)
Groei & Bloei Open Gardens Weekend 2025 The Groei & Bloei Open Gardens Weekend 2025 is on June 21 and 22. Enjoy wandering through gardens and gathering ideas for your own! For the latest news and before you head out, be sure to check the websites of the branches in your area or your own branch. Discover beautiful and unique flower and plant combinations, stroll through originally designed gardens, and view all kinds of materials and applications. A wonderful opportunity to meet other garden enthusiasts, exchange tips and tricks, and gain innovative ideas for your own garden. Gardens can be visited throughout the Netherlands. In Flanders, you can also visit open gardens on May 25, June 28 and 19, and September 7, 2025. This is organized by www.opentuinen.be. Would you like to visit gardens in your neighborhood? Matariki Festival (21 and 22 June)
It has already been 15 years since a special moment took place: the handover of two beautiful wakas, Te Hono ki Aotearoa and Abel Tasman. This unique event teaches you more about Maori culture and celebrates 15 years of collaboration with Toi Maori and The Dutch Waka Crew. Get acquainted with craftsmanship, admire the beautiful wakaJoin in the fun and participate in inspiring workshops and lectures. Maori guests from New Zealand and England will share their stories and customs, and together we will launch the wakas. Additionally, the weekend is dedicated to Matariki, or Maori New Year. Pinkpop (June 20, 21, 22)
Pinkpop is an annual pop festival in Landgraaf, which has normally taken place during the Pentecost weekend since 1970. The festival lasts three days (since 1996) and attracts approximately 68.000 people per day. Since the first edition, the festival has had well over one and a half million visitors and more than 500 different artists and bands have performed.
The time at which your response becomes visible may vary by language and take up to 24 hours.
