40 Years of Birds by André Buzin

André Buzin is a major name in the Belgian philatelic world. He has been designing flora and fauna on Belgian stamps for 40 years, and is best known for his drawings of birds. On October 20, 2025, bpost issued five birds that had never before graced a stamp issue. Buzin's first issue was in 1985. Do you know which birds?

In 1985, they suddenly appeared: the chaffinch and the goldfinch, meticulously drawn and printed on Belgian stamps. Now, exactly forty years later, these two birds are symbolically returning on a new stamp sheet, as a nod to an impressive philatelic career. The anniversary issue “40 Years André Buzin – From Feather to Brush” puts the spotlight on the artist behind the iconic bird stamps. “I could never have imagined that this series featuring our native birds would endure for so long,” says André Buzin. “It is therefore with boundless pleasure and great emotion that I experience this surprising tribute to my 40th anniversary.” The issue also features five new birds: the cormorant, the spotted crake, the common merganser, the bittern, and the purple heron. In the border, the chaffinch and the goldfinch steal the show once again.
