The Cycling and Walking Fair reaches a milestone in its history in 2025 and is pleased to celebrate its 20th edition with Germany as the theme country. Dutch people often go on holiday there; it is even the most popular holiday destination outside the country's borders. You will never run out of walking or cycling opportunities in a country where a third of the surface area is protected nature reserve and where 16 national parks, 16 UNESCO biosphere reserves, and 106 nature parks await you. Germany also offers every opportunity for a sustainable holiday. The destination is easily accessible by bicycle or train, and you will find more than 2.100 accommodations that prioritize sustainability.
Germany, the cycling country
With approximately 320 long-distance cycle routes totaling about 100.000 km, including 45 ADFC Quality Cycle Routes and 6 ADFC Cycle Travel Regions, the term "cycling paradise" is almost an understatement for Germany. Whether you prefer comfortable cycling along meandering rivers, the Baltic Sea coast, or in the challenging mountain regions of the interior and Southern Germany, there is plenty to choose from. Wonderful walking
Germany is also a destination with many internationally recognized top hiking routes that crisscross the entire country. For cyclists, the famous Elbe Cycle Path is a highlight, running partly through Saxony-Anhalt. Hikers often choose the trails in the Harz Mountains and the Saale-Unstrut wine region.
