1000th Freestamp Magazine: The Treasure Chamber

In early 2017, Rob Smit, owner of Postbeeld, asked if I wanted to write a blog, because according to him, I possessed extensive knowledge regarding various themes for which a stamp or special cancellation had previously been issued. Now, 9,5 years later, I am writing my 1000th ^blog . The first 987 blogs were written as part of Postzegelblog, and the last 13 under the new, improved site: Freestampmagazine. I hope to write even more blogs. I now have a stock of 100 topics on a list again. The question is whether, besides Bate and myself as heavy users of Freestampmagazine, you, as a reader of the blogs, would also like to sign up as a new blogger. I am curious. Please contact us via info@postbeeld.nl and you will receive an account. The title 'de Schatkamer' refers to the treasure trove of freestampmagazine. By searching via the search screen on the homepage, you can find any topic (including those formerly written with Postzegelblog).

New bloggers wanted

Research shows that: The average Dutch person spends about 2 hours a day on social media. This amounts to approximately 14 hours per week. Young people often spend significantly longer on social media (on average around 2,5 to almost 3 hours per day, or about 18 to 20 hours per week). So, spend a little less time on social media and instead fill that time as a blogger. As a blogger, it takes you a maximum of 1 to 2 hours per week to write a blog post. Perhaps you already write pieces for other associations or local newspapers. Try writing a blog post about your favorite theme. You surely have experience writing a piece for your local or national stamp collecting association, or simply writing for your local weekly door-to-door newspaper.

Subjects and themes

There are 1001 topics you could write about in philately. You see them, for example, in the monthly magazine Filatelie and the magazine Thema (NVTF). You can also gather topics from the daily news (and websites), and a visit to the library will provide you with a wealth of information to write blogs about, accompanied by the corresponding stamps and special cancellations. I have chosen the following themes, for example:

• Museums (via tag made in holland)
• World War II
• Sport (Olympic Games, Tour de France)
• Royal house
• Events
• Commemorations
• etc., etc.

I have chosen various themes, often based on current events. I receive a wealth of information through my philatelic network. I thank the advice I receive from Jaap, Otto, Boris, Helga, Aad, Willem (Posthistorie), Lars, Ramon, Paul, Peter, Ton, etc. This advice has led to the current structure of the blogs. I feel comfortable with this setup and will continue writing thematic blogs that touch upon current events.
